You can access your shared storage in a Finder or Explorer browser absolutely fine.
But when you go to ingest or link some media in Premiere Pro you can’t see your shared storage as an option.
Why? It’s infuriating!
Well don’t dispair, the answer is quite simple it’s just not immediately obvious inside Premiere Pro.

From a Mac
Ok, to be able to view a network share in Premiere Pro from a Mac we need to ensure the network share is mounted first.
What does this mean?
It means we need to access the shared storage directly so that it shows up in the Mac sidebar under ‘Locations’.
So head to ‘Network’ from the sidebar, click on your network storage and access it. You may need to I put your credentials first to log in to the storage.
If your network storage isn’t listed under Network then you may need to go to the top menu and use ‘Go to Sever’. Input the server’s local IP address, log into it and it should now appear with your folder and files and also appear in the sidebar under ‘Locations’.
Now head back to Premiere Pro and try to ingest or link some media again.
You should find that your network share is now visible inside Premiere Pro.
It might ask for permission to access files on your network storage before you can see all your files and folders.
From Windows
To get your network share to show up from a Windows PC is slightly different.
You need to add your network storage as a ‘mapped drive’ first with its own assigned drive letter.
To do this you need to go to ‘This PC’ and at the top click ‘Map Network Drive’.
Next choose the letter you want the drive to be assigned. Add in the server location or IP address and make sure the drive has a publicly shared folder for Windows to find.
You will need to input your log in credentials for the shared storage and then your network share should be mapped as a drive in Windows Explorer.
Now head back to Premiere Pro and try to ingest or link some media again.
You should find that your network share is now visible inside Premiere Pro.
